The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum has partnered with Bank of America to reward their customers with free general admission on the first weekend of every month. Free Kids Activity Feb 4

Saturdays for Kids

10:00 a.m. - Noon

With the freeing of the slaves and the removal of Indian tribes, the years between 1865 and 1889 were wild and turbulent in what became Oklahoma. Blacks migrated to Oklahoma to get a brand new start in the Cavalry, and their 9th and 10th regiments were dubbed The Buffalo Soldiers. Through re-enactor Albert H. Bostick Jr. of Oklahoma City follow a freedman as he enlists and begins his military training in this lively romp through history. Hear songs and facts about the life and times of a Buffalo Soldier.

Designed for children ages 4 to 12, Saturdays for Kids are part of the Museum’s educational programming. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission for the February program is free.

Make Reservations for An Evening with Baxter Black Feb. 24

Described as “probably the nation’s most successful living poet” by the New York Times, this former veterinarian turned storyteller will bring his own unique sense of humor of everyday cowboy life to the Sam Noble Special Events Center for a can’t miss performance.

Come spend an evening at the Cowboy Museum filled with wholesome entertainment for the whole family. Show-only tickets and buffet dinner/show packages available. Reservations required for buffet packages and seating is limited.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day At The Cowboy

The National Cowboy Museum’s Dining on Persimmon Hill restaurant invites guests to enjoy a buffet dinner and dancing in the lovely Sam Noble Special Events Center. The Museum galleries will be open for viewing and champagne and wine will be available for purchase. Reservations are required (405) 478-2250, Ext. 281. Cost is $44.98 per person.

Attend Exhibits Free Opening Reception February 2

The National Cowboy Museum welcomes two traveling exhibitions: “Pueblo to Pueblo: the Legacy of Southwest Indian Pottery” and “The Sun and His Wife”. To kick off viewing the Museum will have a free opening reception available to the public on February 2 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. that includes Hors d'oeuvres and wine.

Visit New Native American Art Exhibit

From the Museum’s Arthur and Shifra Silberman Collection, The Sun and His Wife, this exhibition depicts the ceremonial and domestic life of Southwest Indians as seen in their art. Approximately 50 works represent artists of Navajo, San Ildefonso, Hopi, Cochiti, Taos, Zuni and more. It a wonderful complement to the Pueblo to Pueblo: the Legacy of Southwest Indian Pottery.

See Traveling Exhibition of Southwest Pottery

The Museum is the first stop for the traveling exhibition, Pueblo to Pueblo: the Legacy of Southwest Indian Pottery, from the rich collections of The Kansas City Museum & Union Station Kansas City Inc. Pueblo pottery of the Southwest is one of the most beautiful and enduring artistic traditions in all of Native North America, and this exhibit features 74 pottery vessels illustrating the remarkable variety of pottery created from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries.

New Exhibition Features Will James Collection

The National Cowboy Museum opened a new exhibit on December 9, 2011 that will be available for viewing until October 14, 2012 that is dedicated to the collected works of Will James.

Will James’ tales and drawings of cowboy life have delighted generations of readers for decades. This traveling collection, owned and curated by Abe Hays, explores the works that exposed readers to the everyday world of the working cowboy and how James positively-influenced the American perception of the West in the early 20th century.
